Remember Handbags? Here Are 5 Cute (and Affordable!) Options

It's been a while since you took a bag further than your nearest supermarket. And now that you’ve got (some) places to go, and (a small group of) people see, you might be thinking about taking a few nice things with you. Keys, cash, mask, hand sanitizer, tinted lip balm, snacks of various flavour profiles. Lucky for you, we’ve searched every cute corner of the internet to find the coolest — and most affordable — future it-bags. And they just so happen to tick the boxes when it comes to making more sustainable fashion choices. Now you can look good, feel great, and have somewhere to put all your stuff on the way.

**Remember Handbags?** Here Are 5 Cute (and Affordable!) Options

Charles & Keith

If nailing a job interview was a bag, it would have a Charles & Keith label on it. This is real smart girl stuff — laser-cut leather, chunky chain links, see-through trapeze bags and the most chic top-handle minis. They also make accessories and shoes and, with those, recently announced a collaboration with one of our fave labels Cecilie Bahnsen. Big tick! Beyond pushing artful designs and excellent craftsmanship, the brand is also super transparent about their efforts towards becoming more and more sustainable, and that’s such a cool thing. They care about carefully managing resources, like water, and using sustainably-sourced materials; they encourage customers to use their repair and recycle programs; they make sure everyone in the business is equipped to learn about sustainability with them. And so much more!

Georgia Jay

A minimalist’s dream-come-true, Georgia Jay makes unfussy handbags for the girl who appreciates the little things in life. Basically, these bags will go with almost everything you own, and they’ll still feel fresh season after season. The label is a good intro to ‘slow fashion’ — every piece is entirely handmade in Georgia’s New Zealand studio, using natural materials and impossibly perfect hand finishings. Otherwise leftover (deadstock) leather hides are hand-picked by Georgia locally, and then she cuts them all up personally before they’re shaped into lovely shoulder décor.

We’re convinced that ‘affordable’, ‘luxury’ and ‘vegan’ is one of the best combinations of words in the world, and incidentally those are exactly the ones JW Pei uses to describe their line of accessories. The brand founded by a husband and wife duo (cute!) creates unique handbags and accessories, solely from vegan materials and recycled plastic, while also keeping the price tag uniquely low.

Poppy Lissiman

For when you want your accessories to speak for you, go straight to Poppy Lissiman. Fashion’s resident loud girl has been making eye-popping accessories for over ten years (you might remember seeing her Le Skinny sunglasses on a few Kardashian-Jenner noses) and is committed to the equation of handmade and high quality. Just as you’d hope from a label that manifests such cool vibes, all Poppy Lissiman bags and wallets are vegan and cruelty free.

(Pre-Owned) By Far

By Far almost feels like the original sustainably-focused accessories brand — and your Insta feed could be evidence of that. It’s no wonder the brand is spotted on almost every girl on the grid, since the brand mixes vintage and modern design so flawlessly that it’s as if, somewhere deep inside, you knew you loved their bags before you even saw them. By Far uses consciously-sourced materials and sometimes deadstock leathers, which is great, but the real tip here is to go pre-owned. The brand is having a real moment on fashion re-sale platforms like Vestiaire Collective, so it’s a cinch to find a piece for a reduced price and double the sustainable fashion choice.
