We know by now that the most sustainable way to shop is to invest in a few timeless, long-lasting pieces you’ll love (and take care of) forever. So, it’s nice to see a brand build their entire strategy on the idea of ‘adding something better.’ Addition creates their wardrobe staples by collaborating with sustainable experts on small collections of ethically made goods that definitely qualify as must-haves — but never go out of style. Why Addition? The brand grew out of the sustainable concept store glore Karoviertel because the team was inspired to come together to create an addition to their existing product range. “Addition is a plus for our selection, a plus for your life,” the brand writes on their website.
If you have to add something to your wardrobe (let’s say winter boots, without which you literally wouldn’t be able to leave the house for months), it’s good to make sure they’re built to last — both when it comes to material as well as our fickle taste levels. That’s why for their first collection of footwear, Addition focused on evergreen designs, like a classic chunky lace-up or sturdy yet stylish hiking boot. They were designed and produced in collaboration with Werner Shuhe, a German brand that’s been around since 1911 (!!!) and stands for “an ethical European production, vegetable tanned leather, a high quality fabrication and super comfy fit.” So nice!
But the truly nicest thing is this: Addition donates 3% of each sale to Femnet, which is an association that fights for women’s rights in the global clothing industry. “We don’t only want to create something new together,” the brand explains on their website. “We also want to give something back.” Makes sense! It’s a give and take — like when you say something nice, you’ll hopefully hear something nice in return. (Love you, say it back!!!)
