Outfit Repeater: 5 Go-To Minimalist Looks With @elisaschenke

We should all be minimalists. Why? Hold up, let us just pass the mic to our minimalist muse and serious re-wear pro @elisaschenke for this one: “With the years I’m getting more and more to the core of my personal style, creating a key wardrobe where nearly every piece goes with another. That makes it very easy to get dressed even in short time.” We’ve been following Elisa for a while — reeled in by her clean and effortlessly elegant looks and sticking around for her inspiring take on a more sustainable approach to fashion. Naturally we had to ask her for advice on go-to outfits and investment-worthy forever pieces. What we’ve learned? 1) Comfort is key. 2) Black is always a good idea. 3) “It’s essential to invest in pieces of good quality and fit so they can be worn for a long time.” Thank you for coming to Elisa’s TED Talk (and don’t forget to follow her on Instagram for more).

“Denim blue is one of the very few colours in my wardrobe. I love to style a good pair of denim (either a straight fit or a relaxed one) with a special top, e.g. a plisse shirt, a backless body or a leather shirt. A special cut or material adds a slight sophistication to the casual denim look which makes it more interesting.”

Invest In: a Leather Shirt

“I invested in a new leather dress last summer, this year I got a leather top and a short-sleeved leather-shirt and I’m living in these pieces ever since. Unquestionable, the manufacturing process of leather goods is very polluting, but it’s also a very durable material that lasts a lifetime if you take good care. So, if you’re investing in a leather piece, be aware there’s a responsibility you buy with it.”

“The style credit for this look goes out to all American baseball dads, wearing high waist shorts, boxy shirts and most importantly: sneakers. It’s the perfect “off-duty” look and very comfortable.”

Invest In: Sneakers

“It’s very obvious that sneakers are the most comfortable footwear and that’s basically the whole reason to get a pair. But besides the comfort they’re also a great tool to break chic looks or add a casual, sporty twist to classic outfits.”

“Especially in summer, there’s no way around a satin dress for me. To create a cool day look I love to break the chicness of the dress and combine some chunky sneakers. By changing the footwear to flip flops and adding a blazer, it’s easily turned into a classic evening look.”

Invest In: a Satin Dress

“A satin dress is a real all-round talent. I love to break the chicness of the dress and combine some chunky sneakers for a casual look. By changing the footwear to strappy sandals or flip flop heels it’s easily turned into a feminine evening look. If the dress got side slits you can tack them with safety pins on the sides to add a little bit of sexiness.”

“Suits are my easiest go-to looks. Although they look like I put much effort into the styling they’re actually put together in 2 minutes. Depending on the accessories you can wear them nearly on any occasion: in the office, for a weekend-brunch or to a bar in the evening.”

Invest In: Mix-and-Match Suiting

“It’s not a single piece that makes the look in this case, it’s both the top and the bottom matching each other. You can do that by combining the same colours and materials but combining different materials can also make a great suit-style if the fit goes well together. If you’re looking for a great suit, I can highly recommend looking in the second-hand men’s department. In general, it’s best to look out for woolen suits or linen pieces in summer.“

“We all have those old t-shirts we sleep and chill in, but I decided to invest in a proper loungewear set during lockdown. They’re super comfortable and still presentable enough to open the door for the postman or the cute neighbour.”

Invest In: Silk Basics

“Whether as a pyjama, as loungewear or for any look, natural materials like silk are perfect to be worn throughout the day. Especially in the summertime they feel amazing on your skin and — bonus! — don’t crease easily.”
